Dr. Al Oufi was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Wealth in April 2019. He also held the position of Undersecretary for Fisheries Wealth in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Wealth during the period July 2006 – April 2019. He has a wide breath of experience in the development, management and implementation of investment projects in Oman including major fishing ports along the coast of Oman and the launching of the commercial and coastal fishing fleet. Dr. Al Oufi played an instrumental role in launching the aquaculture development and investment program in Oman with the aim to build a sustainable aquaculture industry and to ensure maximizing the positive impact of these investments in the country’s economic diversification process.
Furthermore, he has long academic experience acquired from serving at Sultan Qaboos University between 1991 and 2006. Throughout his academic career he held several posts including Assistant Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Assistant Vice President for Science Colleges, in addition to his teaching role. He has a BSc in fisheries technology from Sultan Qaboos University, a Master’s degree in the management of fisheries technology from the University of Hull, UK and a PhD from the University of Hull, UK. Dr. Al Oufi has published more than 30 technical articles in primary journals.
